A lesson in crosslinking polymers. The polymer is PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) crosslinked by borax (sodium tetraborate).
The important thing was how fun it it to play with.
I tried to explain non-Newtonian fluids but had more success with the classic pretend-to-sneeze-and-hold-slime-from-nose joke.
